If you have nothing to say, write about commercials.
I know, I know. I’m a slacker. I’ve been mailing shank-filled pastries to the angriest inmates at Michael Vick’s new home and haven’t had time to write 20 entries about the Mitchell report in between crying fits over Tadaguchi’s deal with the stupid camouflage Fast-Times-at-Ridgemont-High-Spicoli-having Padres.
So here’s some silly information. I’m assuming that as sports fans, we all see the same commercials over and over again when watching games. Most of them are stupid. Some of them are funny (Denny Green) even if they’re for crappy beer I’d never drink. Then there’s that Sprint commercial where people are on a basketball court that turns into a pool and a song goes “I’m falling away….” That song is catchy as hell, right?
Well get this — it’s not even a “real” song. It was recorded for the commercial by a company called Human Worldwide. According to Duncan’s TV Ad Land:
The ‘Falling Away’ track was written by Lindsay Jehan, Hugh Wilson, Andy Bloch, and Morgan Visconti at Human Worldwide. The song was recorded at Human Worldwide’s studio by Hugh Wilson (vocals) and Lindsay Jehan (instruments), Australians living in New York at the time. Wilson is performing the full song at his live shows.
The post about this ad (dated Nov. 27, 2005 [!]) has 147 comments; the ones I read all are about the song and where to find it. I went to the Myspace page someone set up for the song and downloaded the mp3 of the whole thing. Cool!
It’s not my usual “type” of music, but is a nice little song.
Tadaguchi to Rockies?
Tadahito Iguchi’s agent met with the Rockies today, continuing the “preliminary” discussions that started with phone conversations.
I’ve been thinking that the Rockies should sign Tadaguchi for a while now, but I haven’t written about it because doing so would just get my hopes up and I’ve already lost him once (when the White Sox traded him to the Phillies). It’s a perfect match — a reliable and relatively inexpensive second baseman and, well, a team that needs someone at 2B and doesn’t want to spend a ton of cash. The thought of one of my favorite 2005 White Sox players coming to the Rockies is so awesome I can’t even stand it.
If you don’t know about how awesome Tadaguchi is, check this out:
Serious Carmelo
I don’t want to make too much of this (really!) but during last night’s Nuggets game, I saw Carmelo’s gigantic smile exactly once, and it was after a questionable call went his way. Even when he messed up or didn’t get a foul call he should’ve gotten, the smile wasn’t there. He seemed serious during the entire game, really serious. Mature, even. He hustled on defense. And they kicked ass against the Clippers, a team I didn’t think they’d beat on the second night of a back-to-back.
Nice work, Melo. Let’s see more of this!
