I’m going to beat my boyfriend at fantasy football.
So my fantasy football team has been okay this year. I’m in second place (in an 8-person league). The top three people are 8-5 and the next two people are 7-6. My boyfriend is one of the 7-6 people and I’m playing him this week.
Here’s the thing. The other 7-6 person is in 4th place, because he has more points than B, who is in 5th place. Only the top 4 people go on to the FF Super Bowl. That means if B wins this week and #4 loses, B makes the Super Bowl. If they both win or both lose and B catches up to #4 in points (unlikely), B makes the Super Bowl.
The other day, I think B kind of suggested that I let him win. I guess it wouldn’t hurt me, because I’m in the Super Bowl anyway. But, um, no.
I’ve never considered myself to be that competitive. I guess I was in law school, but only after I realized I was awesome at it (and I swear to Michael Turner I was not an asshole). But somehow I’m really competitive when it comes to fantasy football (or brackets, or really anything related to sports — like if I’m hanging out with Cubs fans and the Cubs beat the Sox, it BURNS). So I can’t just get all soft and let anybody win.
In any event, that’s just not right. The dude in 4th place deserves to get into the Super Bowl if he earns his place there. I can’t mess with that. I believe in the integrity of the game, yo. If you don’t have integrity in fantasy football, how can you have integrity anywhere else in life? </Ditka>
Of course, last week my team looked like the Oakland Raiders; nobody could do anything right and then Al Davis tried to fire me. So he might beat me anyway. And that would totally be fine, I swear.
Update: Yeah, so after all this, I have to report that he completely and totally kicked my ass. There you have it. My boyfriend beat me at fantasy football. And I thought I was sooo cool when I wrote this post. Geez.

Well, these are interesting thoughts. I think they are true. However, everything is
relative and ambiguous to my mind.
