HBP Playlist: IPA Day

without comments

Yesterday was IPA Day, which is awesome but also not much different from every other day when you really like drinking beer and drink IPA 98% of the time. (My default beer this summer is Ranger. I’m not always a fan of New Belgium beers, but this one is nice.) We didn’t make it to the James Murphy DJ set in Boulder, so I thought I’d do a DJ set of my own (and of course, seeing as I’m not a DJ, it’s just a playlist). I gotta say, I really enjoyed listening to this last night (and Ben didn’t hate it, which I consider high praise because he is a DJ and also picky).

Sometimes I think about moving back to Illinois, but I don’t think it will ever happen. When you live in Colorado for a while, you take things for granted so much you might erroneously believe things are this awesome everywhere. Yesterday Ben and I were sitting in the back yard, as we are wont to do, talking about midwestern humidity. Like the time (when I still entertained the the thought of getting on an airplane) I walked out of the airport smack into a wall of humidity. Even when it’s not hot, the air stifles you, sitting heavy on your skin. I always wanted to have long hair and never did. By the time I got to wherever I was going, my perfectly styled hair was a flat, stringy mess. I’d get it cut short and wait forever for it to get long-ish and look like shit again. In Colorado, you can have whatever hair you want. And you can be whoever you want. There’s something about living in a place where you don’t have all your history, where everything doesn’t remind you of something, where you make your own family. There’s something about living in the West, too, where people come to get away or to do something different or because they’re kind of weird.

Sitting in the yard drinking Ranger and listening to this playlist was so awesome (our weather has been doing this thing for a couple weeks now where in the late afternoon/early evening, clouds roll in and the temperature cools off and sometimes it rains and sometimes it doesn’t and every time this happens I say “I wish we had a sleeping porch”) I stayed out there, little dog on my lap, while Ben went in to give Soren a bath. I watched the clouds and airplanes and birds and dragonflies. If it weren’t for having to pee and get another beer, I might still be there.
